This morning we held the inaugural Travelogix Working Smarter Breakfast Briefing.

As it was our first we were not sure how it would go but in my opinion it was a tremendous success. We had around 25 dedicated guests turn up at the unearthly hour of 8am, free coffee and Danish in hand, to hear the top recommendations for going online.

Our speakers, Kristi Barrow and Serena Star-Leonard, certainly did us proud.

Kristi, former Marketing Director of Expedia (ANZ) presented first and shared a lot of highly interesting statistics about internet searching and usage in general, then specifically related this to the travel industry. She talked about the extraordinary increase, over the last 5 years in online travel searching and bookings – not just on PCs but also on mobile devices. Did you know that of all mobile phone owners in Australia around 50% have a smart phone that they can access the web on? And this figure is expected to increase to 65% by 2015. People are now more confident using the internet to actually make bookings and pay with their credit card – and they can do it from anywhere, at any time!

Serena, Author, Radio Presenter and Business Coach gave our guests some very practical tips about how to utilise the free social media tools that are now at our disposal. The number of people using applications like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and even Youtube on a daily basis now means that marketers have more power than ever before. Instead of the traditional one to many marketing, with one post on the right social media forum we can now reach one to many to many and so on! These extraordinary tools are still underutilised in many industries however this is changing rapidly. Serena’s Seven Steps to Building your Online Community should benefit our guests and further their marketing reach greatly with no financial outlay!

Feedback on the event has been very complimentary and the next one is already half full and we haven’t even planned it yet! We do know it will be held in November – register your interest now and stand by for more details.

The Working Smarter Melbourne Breakfast Briefing will be held on Thursday 20th October at the East Melbourne Library so if you missed your opportunity to hear Serena and Kristi speak today you had better get yourself down to Melbourne! Book early!
